Hi Barnie - yes, definitely. It’s a very odd /surreal adjustment period to go through I think for all of us; physically your body is still only just past your HA, you have meds settling in too - and then you also have the mental adjustment of coming to terms with what, why, how etc; so many questions and not many answers . Up and down between elation of living and fear for the future- far removed from the normal day to day existance we probably all took for granted pre a serious medical condition waltzing into our life.

It does get better, I trusted others’ words on this forum to that effect - and yes, nearly a year later I can see I have come so far from the first few months. I don’t think there is any harm with giving yourself time to breathe at your stage - live day to day, following the advice for exercise and diet. Make a plan for review with your GP or cardiologist - what helped me was making a diary to note any symptoms, which helped to identify any repetition of feelings ; emotional or physical -and then I could discuss to allay worries or to find out if anything could be meds related or if other support is required. It is a new ‘normal’ as I think I have said before... but I am sure you will get there, but I don’t think it can be forced- you may be quicker than me at getting to that point , but as my counsellor said - it’s akin to a bereavement and two years is the norm for that. Hang in there mate and I wish you a speedy recovery. Best wishes , David

Thanks David, kind and sagely words. Its good to know that I am at least having the same feelings as others in my position. Also, I am aware that my feelings have impacted on my family and they too are having to adjust

Hi Barnie

Yes I too felt tired and listless for the first 4 weeks and thought this was how I was going to feel forever.

Gradually over the next month improved physically and mentally. Lots of short walks, activities that kept my mind busy and a fabulous group of friends that kept my spirits up 😀

I still get tired / emotional days and look back and see how far I’ve come 😀😀

I’m starting back to work next week on a phased return 8 weeks after HA . Anxious but happy for the next step of recovery.

Take care of yourself and best wishes for your recovery. Step by step.

Chris

Yes - likewise, for a few months. Not helped I suspect by the various drugs they have us on afterwards. I gather this is quite common. Stay positive and do nice things!
