Panicked daughter here! My dads in a&e with 10% ejection fraction. He has an ICD fitted and a pacemaker. He has had cardioversion last week and they found one of the leads have come out so it’s not working properly yet and needs to be refitted. He’s on a range of tablets to. I know that HF will never get better but will his EF improve? Should I be prepared for the worst?

Hello, it sounds like you’re going through an awful time and I can’t answer your questions but wanted to offer you some support. I’m sure other members will too. Hope everything turns out well for your dad.
Hi Katie, everyone is different so it’s difficult to give a definitive answer. When I was first diagnosed with DCM almost 3 years my EF was low but with the help of a range of different medication and an amazing consultant my EF went up to 41%.
Unfortunately I had a chest infection last year which made it go down again. But some people do find that their EF can go up and down
The meds should help. Ramipril for example is prescribed to ‘remodel’ your heart (the surgeon’s words, not mine). Fingers crossed that with the reconnection and the drugs he’ll make a steady improvement
Katie,
I got diagnosed with only 20% and expected to get an ICD and was prepared for a much shorter lifespan. A long hard road but i am now at 53% LVEF and can do better. Don't give up and don't let him.
U need to explain to ur daughter wat u kno on a age apporate Level if she’s a kid. Be willing to listen and answer questions. Don’t give a just is answer.
