Hi, I'm Gemma, my mum has been told she will need a triple bypass and is awaiting an appointment. She is currently in hospital after having chest pain on Thursday, after some aspirin and a change in her medication the pain went, but as her blood pressure was high they kept her in and told her if it came down she would be able to come home. So after a night in the assesment unit her blood pressure dropped a bit as she had relaxed a bit then last night they said she was going on a ward then they went to do her blood pressure again which as my mum was upset at not going home was sky high again. She has always suffered from high blood pressure and been in hospital is not helping as just seeing the machine stresses her out. She is also petrified about the bypass.

The sensible thing would be to put her on a 24 hour BP monitor. It often turns out that people who claim white-coat-hypertension have a number of peaks per day triggered by various events in the day ranging from driving to getting annoyed with a dim-wit shop assistant. You do not mention what BP readings they are getting. If either reading is over the 180/100 there is risk of clots, haemorrhage, stroke and damage to kidneys and the eyes. Hospital may be the best place at the moment.
I had a bypass in November 17 and it is life changing and no where near as bad as i thought it would be, it is major surgery but a routine operation happening every day. i came home with very little pain not even taking paracetamol, unless i sneezed or coughed. i was really amazed how well i felt, i thought i would come out feeling like i had been hit by a train bit as i said i took paracetamol in Hospital bit when i came home didnt need it apart from for my back at night having to sleep on my back.
i am now back to work and continue to improve, its a slowish road but i am so much better than i was 7 months ago. i went to the Royal Brompton in Lomdon and the staff really help you prepare nefore the operation and great care and support after.
hope this help

how they conclude on bypass ? is angiogram carried out ? i empathise with your mother and i myself have gone through mental agony . doctor told me if no bypass there will be heart attack within 6 months .. evenafter 15 months i am still healthy .. suggest to go for a 2nd opinion
I had quadruple bypass surgery in 1997 and I am still here, it saved my life. Tell your mum to try not to worry, it doesn't help. She is in good hands.
After 20 years of angiograms, Stents, pills and more pills until my time had truly come, none stop angina, angiogram showed three blockages. After a the Consultants Discussion it was Decided what was needed was triple bypass. when they come to tell me i wanted to say no as the surgery was risky but i knew it was the only way forward. After the op i never felt any real pain and after a night on the ICU i was taken to the ward were i was encouraged start moving about. the next day we were encouraged to start walking, and i felt on top of the world, i could walk easily with no effort and no angina. 4 Day's later i'm on my way home. As the nurse said to me you are a lucky man, you have a new life. go home, eat and enjoy life. Everybody is frightened but it's the best decision i have ever made..I would just like to thank the Surgeon as he saved my life and as a bonus he got the vein out my leg keyhole style, only 2 little scars.
