Is it safe to use a hot tub/Jacuzzi after heart surgery. I can't get a straight answer from the cardiac nurses. It is four months now.

Garden hot tub
That sounds like a doctor question. Ive not had surgery but have a fib. My cardiologist says no but EP says yes if its not over a certain temperature. I compromise and only go half way in😂
I asked my cardiologist about using a sauna and he was very clear, yes but don’t spend too much time in it in one go and stay hydrated. I think a hot tub will be fine
Hi.
Generally the advice is it is safe if the temperature is not too hot and you only stay in for short periods (5 to 10 minutes). Hot tubs can lower blood pressure and superheat the body. If you can't get a straight answer why not ring the BHF nurse helpline they are the experts, or ask your cardiologist/surgeon at your next review.
Good luck.
Get in turn it up and enjoy the steam it gives u. The steam will help ur heart. I often have very hot showers cos that’s how I enjoy steam therapy. U will find ur breathing is better cos of it. If u have had open Heart surgery u may have to wait a little bit before getting ur scar wet but I guesss after 4 months u should be ok. Last time u had open Heart surgery I was 4 years of age. I have a sister who is still a kid and she says it helps her breathing to get healthy into the hot tub.
I personally think you are fine if you have no other medical conditions. Even then I would say do not stay too long, don't have it too hot and NEVER add more hot water. The real risk is that you could feel faint, or even faint, particularly if you are on any BP or anti-anginal medication.
Yes. The issue is that getting into water lowers your blood pressure, particularly sitting in hot water. I was advised that it was fine but no more than 20 minutes. Beware when you get out of the effects of low blood pressure and just stand for a few minutes holding onto something secure until you feel normal again
I went away to a spa at seven months post AVR. I don't remember any warning about the hot tubs but there were warnings about the sauna and steam rooms. I did use the sauna but only for about five mins.
There were quite a lot of treatments that stated not suitable for someone with a heart condition. Also I was not allowed a full body massage until a year post surgery. Head neck and shoulder massage was lovely though
Interesting as I've been told I mustn't swim although I'm now 8months post bypass.. also sauna steam and hot tubs are not to be used.. maybe try speaking with one of the nurses on this site. Hope you get the answer you want.
I have decided not to use hot tub this year but I was intending to start swimming sounds as if that is a no for now
