Hi everyone, I am 53 and had a heart attack last December which resulted in me having 2 stents fitted. Since then I have attended cardiac rehab and have had my follow up appointment and all seems ok. The only ongoing issue is I now have very high blood pressure despite my meds being put up. I gave up smoking almost 4 months ago, exercise daily and although I am overweight I am losing weight. Any advice on lowering my BP would be gratefully received

Hi there Sueblu and welcome to the forum.
Well done on the smoking part, a good start. Diet will help, cut down on the amount of protein in your diet and increase the fruit and vegetable intake, I am sure you had the chat about the Eatwell plate on your rehab.
Have a look here at the BHF help sheet bhf.org.uk/heart-matters-ma....
good luck going forwards and keep us in touch
take care

There are many reasons why your BP maybe high. You have already taken the biggest single step to improving it by stopping the fags (well done, it’s not easy). Then there is your weight, which you are doing something about, then exercise, lots of it but be sensible, then diet - go healthy (lots of veg, low fat and low sugar and low salt). They all help. It might be worth having a chat with your GP as well and having your electrolyte levels checked - it’s a bit of a long shot but if you are getting nowhere with everything else ......
Hi Sueblu. Well done on stopping smoking that’s great. And the weight loss. As Steve says diet maybe a factor especially salt. Is it also worth trying yoga/meditation that may help as well and worth a try. Take care. Zena
