Hi,
Following a nasty six weeks of AF, I had a cardioversion and I've been put on Amiodarone. Has anyone got experience of this drug, in particular avoiding sunburn.
Thanks

Hi There,
Yes, I was on it for 6 months+. It made me quite nauseous and drained me of energy, but I know some people (on here) who have been on it for years with no ill effects.
As regards the sun, well I live in Scotland so, we don’t have a huge amount of sun and I got used to slapping on the factor 50 on really hot days otherwise I didn’t bother…..I didn’t turn blue!
The only advise I could give is to get off it as soon as possible.

Hi been on it 2 years now as for sun I use factor 50 have not risked sun batheing .It's had a effect on my thyroid but cardiologists still wants me on it for my af.its like every med we take does one thing good and one bad
They put me on 200mg of Amiodarone after my bypass op because I had a few sporadic bouts of AF. I didn't realise it was a side effect until they took me off it after I complained that I felt my skin burning, even on a moderate day. That was over a year ago. My AF didn't continue after I'd left the hospital however so it would depend on your circumstances.
Hope all goes well

I was allergic to Amiodrone when I was put on it for AF. My blood pressure went beserk, I was sent to the high dependency ward for a couple of days. There didn't seem to be an alternative drug, so I waited for several months feeling very breathless and tired with AF, (I couldn't manage a flight of stairs without pausing) , until I had the cardioversion. My assumption is there was no alternative drug. If the only trouble is sun sensitivity, then it shouldn't put you off - but then I too live in Scotland!
