Hi there, two weeks ago my Nan had a heart attack. Since she’s become very depressed as is reacting very badly to her medication. Due to sickness and diarrea she is not eating. I want to get her to try meal shakes that are easy to make I.e shake and go. I only know sports shake which I cannot imagine would be good for her heart. Can someone help to recommend a product please?

Ensure make a range of products that can be used as meal replacements/supplements. Their range includes standard/high protein/light/etc. in a range of flavours to suit most people. They are used a lot with the sick and elderly who are not eating a lot. Speak to a pharmacist who will be able to advise - they will probably want weight/height (for BMI), age and current medication. I believe the in shop pharmacies in large chains like Sainsbury's and Tesco stock them but do speak to a pharmacist!

Opps! Posted before I was ready. I was going to say when I have a upset stomach pineapple juice and rich tea biscuits work best for me.

Contact her GP about the sickness and diarrhoea.

Already have, they’ve given her more tablets for it 🙈. It’s been 2 weeks since she’s eaten properly and she’s only 8 stone to begin with x

You should be able to get her doctor to prescribe meal replacements my mum used to get them either as milkshakes in a carton or dried sachets to mix up.

The problem that friends and I have noticed is quite frequently doctors want to try YAT (yet another tablet) first so it can be helpful to buy some and if it works report back (to the doctor).

She’s today been taken into hospital and will be given what she needs via a drip. The doctors will have to relook at her meds and situation now. So fingers crossed she’ll start to feel better. Really appreciating the tips from everyone.

I hope she feels better very soon. The Regain meal replacements are good. ..with added vitamins & minerals. I am trying to lose weight and my favourite meal replacements are Exante....so many soya-based tasty savoury & sweet flavours for all meals. Each meal has about 200 calories so to gain weight she can have a savoury + a sweet dessert or a shake. Look at exante.co.uk They have a sale on just now.
