I have a large ASD which causes me to go into AF which requires hospitalisation. I have ended up in hospital 4 times in the last 12 months and have just returned home after my last episode. The episodes seem to be getting closer together, I am not sure if this is usual? I am waiting for an ablation followed by a device closure but am so scared of the AF happening again.
It usually starts in the night and now I am always on edge and not sleeping very well, worrying every time I have a small flutter or ectopic beat.
Has anyone else experienced this or could provide some help on how to cope? The fear and stress is taking over my life.
Thanks

Hi Octavia80 , sorry to hear you're feeling stressed out. The BHF has some more info on coping with AF: bhf.org.uk/heart-health/con...
You can also give our cardiac nurses a call on the helpline if you'd like to chat to someone about this: bhf.org.uk/heart-health/how.... Lines will close at 5pm tonight but will open again 9am Monday.
I'm sure there's others on the community who have experienced the same worries and can offer some advice.
Really hope this helps and hope you have a more relaxing weekend
Sorry to hear you've been struggling with your AF episodes, but reassuring to hear you will soon be having an ablation and ASD closure.
In the meantime, it may be an idea to check in with your GP to check your medications, and see if there are any techniques or therapies available to help you deal with the stress. Some people find meditation will help them to cope with the period before an operation or procedure when they are particularly worried.
