Your GP should tell you why he/she has asked for all of these.

This looks like a fairly comprehensive blood screen (kidney, liver, etc.). The Lipid will tell you what your cholesterol levels are which may (I stress MAY), say something about your cardiac health. You can put each of these into Google and they will give you the detail.

I strongly suggest you go and your GP when your results are through.

Hi cassie, this is a good range of blood test to have. It looks at many different things, such as your bone profile and vitamin levels in your body.

A glucose / HbA1c checks for signs of diabetes, Lipid profile gives you a breakdown of your cholesterol, and if elevated can be a risk factor for coronary artery disease as too can be diabetes. Finding out your cholesterol level also helps your doctor to decide whether you should make changes to your lifestyle and or start taking a cholesterol lowering medication to reduce your risk.

CRP is the protein in your blood and if elevated can indicates infection or inflammation in the body. Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) is also used to detect inflammation in the body.

U & E’s stands for urea and electrolytes, and checks sodium and potassium levels, if abnormal levels either high or low can cause abnormal heart rhythms. Thyroid function test (TFT) will check the levels of the two hormones in your body produced by the thyroid; an underactive or overactive thyroid which may cause palpitations, or a very slow or fast heart rate.

Full blood count (FBC) shows the level of haemoglobin in your blood. A low haemoglobin level might mean anaemia, which may cause your heart to beat faster. LFT looks at your liver function.

Please do feel free to give our heart helpline a call if you have any further questions, which is open monday to friday 9am to 5pm on 0300 330 3311.

Hope this helps.

All the best

Dee
