Post pacemaker blues

HeatherForanSmith profile image

I am now eight weeks in and still feel awful. I am pretty sure it is anxiety but it is causing physical symptoms like chest pain discomfort and I think indigestion type discomfort. I have come on holiday to Lanzarote but still cannot relax properly and now really stressing about the flight home.

Hi Heather

I had a pacemaker fitted following heart surgery due to heart block, this was 7 weeks ago. I still get pains in the area of the pacemaker. I had my first check up last week and they said it is normal, as the body adjusts to having the implant.

Please try to enjoy your holiday but if you are still very worried you should ring your pacemaker clinic, assuming you have their number with you.

I know there are quite a few others on here who have had pacemakers for longer who will hopefully reply.

Thanks Wendy I will be going to the clinic when I get back. It is really frustrating as I want to be my old self again. I am sure she will be back

Hi Heather, I think its still early days for you, the scar will be sore and probably feeling more so as its healing. Your anxiety will also affect how you feel, just look at that blue sky, kick your feet back and rest, its dark miserable and windy in the UK.

I admire you, you have your own worries yet you are still offering advice on other threads, well done you

now go and enjoy your break

Mark

Hi Heather, really sorry to hear you're not feeling great. If you want to speak with someone, our cardiac nurses at the BHF can always lend an ear. Hope you enjoy your holiday :)

Thanks I think it is anxiety rather than cardiac related I am a bit more relaxed the last couple of days. Thanks for your offer
