GP surgeries and ECGs

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knew if GP surgeries had to do tests and scans every so often for people with medical conditions - in my case, awaiting pulmonary valve surgery and having an ICD.

I've had a call today to book me in for an ECG 'because I haven't had one in 12 months' there (never had one there, actually, in 4 years or so) - this is despite me having had one at every specialist appointment, including November, and the fact I'm due to have one on Friday, and my ICD records everything anyway.

I guess there's no harm in having another one.

Just they seemed insistent I have one there. Can they not look at my medical records? They get sent letters from my cardiologists. I suppose whether they read them or not is another matter...

Cheers

Andrew

I have to admit confusion about the different way different GP surgeries and areas work. When I went to my GP with chest pains I was referred to a Urgent Chest Pain Clinic where it weas six week wait before I was seen. I had thought I would have had an ECG within a few days as a minimum. Sorry I cannot answer your question as it does not seem a logical to do at this stage (to me).

Hi Andrew, I would actually point out to your GP the fact that you had an ECG in November and ask why they need a new one as unless something has dramatically changed, or your cardiologist has asked it would be a waste of time and resource

I’ve been to the gp with chest pains and was sent to the urgent care centre where they did a ECG.
