Ectopic beats

Hi I am 49 a female and I have svt and extopic beats, heart murmur, slight leaks on valves, hypertension, Cardiomegaly and strong family history of heart disease. The worst thing at the moment for me are the ectopic beats once bad way back in 2003 but much worse for the last year and especially the last few months. They used to be postural but are now more so caused by gastric problems like constant gurgling sensation in my stomach I’m wondering if I have a hiatal hernia or gas in the oesophagus. Also air changes so breezes from the wind or windows that are open steam from a pan or kettle even steam on food will start it, anything that causes a change in air flow starts my heart skipping. It’s keeping me awake most of the night when I stand up it starts again it’s just about ruining my life at the moment. Sometimes it’s as often as every few beats my monitor showed both atrial and ventricular ectopics. I’ve been told it could be vagus related due to the air changes as in irritation of the vagus nerve.

Hi, so sorry to hear about your condition but I can very much relate to it. I have been dealing with this for 2 years now, had several ambulance attendance and hospital stays. Was treated for Angina, Microvascular Angina, gastric , menopausal and now postural/ vagus nerve. All heart, lung, and stomach investigations come back negative or as borderline on normal and I am given the impression that I am over sensitive.... as doctors have given up . I am under pain management clinic and have had sessions in relaxing, posture and have taken up Yoga. I still have issues with change in temperature, still feel the ectopics and have trouble standing and walking, as feel energy levels just drop.Sorry if this is not of any help to you but it helped me to think that I am not the only one feeling like this....

Please get it all checked out with the doctors! Good luck!

Hi Nedragymni Thankyou for your post it is reassuring to hear from people with similar stories. Has the yoga helped in anyway? I too have problems with standing and walking it makes me feel awful. I have had to return to work today I’ve been off for a few months due to palpitations and felt the ectopic beats for the majority of the time I was there. I think mine starts with gastric gurgling sensation/postural/perimenopause/air changes. I have taken bisoprolol 2.5 for the last ten years but don’t want to increase because my heart rate can drop to 48 most of the time. I don’t know what the answer is. Thankyou for responding 😀

HiThank you for the reply.

Yoga does help me relax and feel better mentally and the deep breathing does seem to help as well. I was on Bisoprolol but felt it made things worse, so it was decided to stop it. My heart rate seems to drop between 40/50/60 intermittently without any tablets but noticed that it is linked to an empty stomach feeling/ nausea feeling. Not sure if we will ever get to the bottom of this.... but good luck

Hi there. So sorry to hear of all your problems. Are you getting all the help you can? Do you feel you have the right consultant for you? Yours should be able to explain why these things are happening to you. I am not sure if we are allowed to recommend consultants on this site, but here goes. Look up Dr. Andrew Grace at Papworth hospital in Cambridge. I don’t know where you are and even if you would consider contacting him. But you are looking at one of if not the best there is. People come from far and wide to see him. I cannot recommend him enough. Hope this helps and take care.

Hi lovefrance thanks for replying. I am under the hospital I work at which I thought to be one of the best in the north west?! I am not too sure about that. They say my ectopics are coming from the Atria and the ventricles but no intervention is needed at the moment?! The ectopic beats are particularly bad at the moment I have them for the majority of the day and night. I would love an appointment with the cardiologist you have mentioned I will need to research how I can get an appointment in another area. Thankyou for your recommendation 😀

Hi Nikki. I am so sorry to hear you are having such a bad time with all this.I do hope it can be resolved soon. I believe you have to be referred by your doctor if you go through the NHS. Of course if you decide to go private, then you can just ring and make an appointment. I appreciate that Cambridge is a fair distance from you. I wish you all the very best in finding the right help for you.Take care.

I went private for this very reason. Peace of mind just to see someone. Still got the ectopics tho.
