Any information please on atherosclerosis. This is a sad post as my 35 year old son died earlier this year. All information I've read so far states possibly starts in childhood?
All my family and ex husbands family have all lived well into their 80's. Darren was born with almost a complete set of great grandparents (my paternal grandfather died when I was 9 but he was 82), a complete set of grandparents.
At age 25 my son was put on bp medication and it was kept well under control, then April this year he had a TIA, 2 weeks later Sepsis (treated incorrectly out of resus) and went into organ failure, cardiac arrest and massive stroke.
On his death certificate it states all four arteries showed severe atherosclerosis, previous week had had a Echocardiogram which said everything was hunky dorey.
Just trying to make sense of all this

I'm sorry for not replying earlier, I couldn't find this post.
Thank you.
There doesn't seem to be a lot of information regarding atherosclerosis and 35 seems so young to have a heart so badly affected. Should have said that Darren didn't smoke or drink....ever
I know we're currently funding research projects into the condition (you can find more info on these with a quick search on our website), and I'm sure one of our nurses would be able to answer any questions you have - either on here, or via our helpline: bhf.org.uk/heart-health/how...
