Newbie to the community. Had a aortic root, hemiarch and coronary artery bypass grafting, with mechanical aortic valve replacement.

Had my operation in Liverpool in March 17 after an aortic aneurysm was detected. Operation went very well heart wise, however I did have a minor stroke and slight epilepsy during and after the operation. Big operation and I was aware of the risks. To me the mechanical valve is quite noisy and wondered if anyone else felt this. Be interested to hear how others are coping with their recovery and the mechanical valve in particular and share experiences.

I had a mechanical valve fitted 11 years ago, not particularly noisy, it can be heard at times but not a problem. I had an effusion around the heart after the op which meant a further 3 weeks in hospital, and it's left me with atrial fibrillation, apart from that no real problems, I've walked 800 miles this year so far, including climbing Kinder Scout and High Cup Nick, both about 9 mile walks.

Thanks for that David, so good to hear that all is (almost) well after 11 years. I'm going to start some sort of fitness routine, not sure what yet!

The Cardiac Rehab is a must, helps with the confidence and fitness.

Hi, you sound like you have been through the mill! I can't help with anything as I have a different condition but welcome to the forum and keep us posted how you are doing, char x
