Nail psoriasis - toenails fell off

I have psoriasis on different areas of my body, including nail psoriasis (finger nails and toenails on one foot). My big toenail and smallest toenail fell off very recently. Prior to this I had subungual keratosis (toenails only). Should I see a Dr about this or should I just treat it at home (if so, how?). Various fingernails fell off a few years ago but the Dr just told me it was fine and they'd grow back (they did).

Has this happened to anyone else? Did you treat it? Did your toenails grow back normally? Thanks!

They will grow back. No idea of treatment but I found my nail psoriasis was made worst when my nails were put under stress such as pinching or even tight fitting shoes (including shoes I'd worn for a while and had had changed shape a bit with wear) my advice is to keep your nails short and make sure to get well fitting shoes that are not snug around the toes.

It's so frustrating, isn't it?

You should see a Rheumatologist or Dermatologist and get proper treatment.

I used to be under a dermatologist who prescribed PUVA treatment. That helped some of my psoriasis but not my foot or toenails.

Unfortunately I think toe nails and fingernails are the hardest to treat.

It's awful :(

I was told by the dermatologist there wasn't anything they could do for my toenails and just at least I could cover them up with nail polish! I've never had a nail off but one of them was 50% detached from the nail bed. I keep them short and got rid of any shoes that put pressure on them. I do take a high dose of prescribed vitamin d because I don't absorb it well (probably due to another condition) however I think after a few years on it my nails are doing a bit better than before. Less detachment anyway. I don't know if it's coincidence or not but thought I'd mention it.
