GP has suggested I could use a weak bleach and water solution on my scalp psoriasis!!

My GP has suggested that I make up a dilute solution of bleach and water and carefully pour it onto my scalp to help treat the psoriasis......!

I have NEVER heard of this but I must say that the thought of putting a watery bleach solution on my scalp just horrifies me. I did give this reaction when he said it. he did add that it needs to be used with extreme caution........

but having now researched this, 'bleach baths' are sometimes used in hospitals. What he did not advise was the head must not be submerged and to be unltra careful to avoid any contact with face and eyes(although my own common sense had already grasped this) . But a major factor is that the 'bleach' should be Milton Sterilising Fluid.

The idea behind this is that it will cleanse the skin of microorganisms - known as commensals - that apparently live on the skin.

Has anyone either heard of this or even tested it to see if any difference was made. Currently I personally will not be testing this out, and for a number of valid reasons.

Interesting!!! Never heard of ‘bleach’ used but in 70’s and 80’s I found perms did help. Similar? I’ve not had scalp ps for years now so don’t need to test this method😱😂

thanks Alpacalama! It did take me aback a bit when he suggested it and question whether i had heard him right!

Defo not my thing! I would prefer to find a natural remedy such as diet etc that works. I am working towards this but sometimes the insane itching and pain when scratched makes me think I will try anything - but defo not bleach!

When I had inverse psoriosis I would have the odd bleach bath which helped although I've never heard of it for the head

thanks for response Chocoronnie.

I am still researching why GP blindly suggested the diluted bleach solution and have literally just found an article on inverse psoriasis! The article explains that inverse or flexural psoriasis appears in skin folds like armpits, groin and under breasts.

This has kind of helped explain where on earth my GP had come up with such an idea! I believe he has grouped my scalp psoriasis, arm psoriasis and torso - including under breasts - psoriasis and possibly read somewhere about 'bleach baths' helping with inverse psoriasis and randomly thought it may help with my severe scalp psoriasis!

With all the information collected, and along with my concerns that he did not qualify the suggestion with full details and research I will be sharing my concerns with him and asking him for the medical reference to this treatment and whether he really had considered the risk of pouring bleach solution on my head.
