No, Tamira, I've never tried to claim it. I had to jump through enough hoops to get my ill health retirement from the NHS, the thought of proving stuff all over again fills me with horror.

Oh ic, it was just a thought as my daughter has so much ill time off work and was wondering if anybody did manage to claim. x

As far as I know DWP isn't something you claim, it is The Department for Work and Pensions. dwp.gov.uk/

Yes you can claim DLA and lots of people with BD do. It's very hard to claim so if you are considering it I recommend you seek advice. behcets.org.uk/menus/main.a...

Hello Tamirra;

Association of Behcet's patients like you are not active in Turkey, due to the multi-system disease affects multiple organs, can cause some errors in the diagnosis of the disease, physicians are knowledgeable and experienced in this regard will extend our life spans.

Hi Tamirra

Yes I have claimed for my sister who suffers from Neuro BD and been successful in the claim for DLA as she is no longer able to work due to being extremely disabled by this cruel disease. DLA is not means tested which means this can be paid alongside of any earned income, its paid by the DWP, the government body that administers benefit payments. DLA is particularly difficult to claim as the claim form is highly pedantic, I would advise anyone that has a debilitating disease of this nature to make a claim but with professional help, you can link into to your local DAB (disabled advice Bureau), any local disabled or carer organisation; Optua, Headway or similar, who will be able to assist with a claim. You will need to supply supporting documents from either GP or Consultants and be aware that DLA will change over to PIP with the new Universal Credit System in 2013, a tip; keep all documents relating to your claim for transfer to PIP which will be much smoother with documented evidence supporting DLA. Good Luck

I have very bad arthritis type sypmtoms because of behcets, and I was able to claim. Surely if any symptoms are bad enough to stop anyone from working, they shoild, with the help of their GP be able to claim. Good luck! xx
