I truly believe that to get through this awful unpredictable disease that you have to keep a sense of humour. I was getting an assessment for an electric self powered wheelchair. As I have Atrial Fibrillation which causes blackouts i was told this wouldnt be an option. So the only option would be and electric wheelchair that my husband could operate. But no off course as usual the words I constantly hear came "I dont meet the criteria." This time not because of my weight, or because I have am short but because it wouldnt fit through my front door. For this I would have to completely knock down the front of my home and build up a huge set of french doors. So as I have a front door I dont meet their criteria!

The system is plain crazy! I didn't meet criteria for an electric wheelchair as I can crawl on my hands and knees to the bathroom. I wonder if they expect me to pop to the shops by crawling!
Hi Jazzy, I've only just read this so things may have changed.
Are you in the UK?
I would be interested to know who recommended that you needed a power chair and where they referred you for assessment.
Who carried out the chair assessment and what did it involve?
Who said you would have to knock out the whole front of your house and build up french doors?
I must admit I have never heard of a remote controlled powerchair.
