Hi Jo

I've been on azathioprine for a few years now 175mg per day, and it has really helped my Behcets flare up wise. The only drag with it is monthly blood tests at the hospital ( my gp won't prescribe it to me for some reason!)

the blood test are because that particular meds has a high rate of cancer (skin cancer and lymphoma). gp probably doesnt give it to you probably cause he doesnt know what to do. see if an oncologist will give it too you. you may have better luck there if you are in the united states.

Hi Dinkyjojo

So sorry about your mouth ulcers :( i feel ya! Yup i take azothiaprine or Imuran everyday. Only side effect I noticed off the bat was diarrhea. Until I found my correct dosing, then it went away.

I hole it helps!

I tell you to get away every med. The best thing to do is INFLIXIMAB is a biotecnologicl infusion. I'll feel yourself fine. It's the best thing to do.

Marco

NB: I meet the general hospital director of Bechet clinic in London. I said to me they have INFLIXIMAB.

Hi,

Azathioprine is a 'go to' medicine for Behcet's disease. Many people take it and they find it very good. Sadly when I was prescribed it last year, I got very ill so I now take Micophenalate Motefil (MMF) which is keeping me quite well.

Remember to keep having four weekly blood tests. Apart from that, I hope that Azathioprine works for you. If not, do not worry, there are quite a lot of other drugs which may do the trick.

Hi yes I'm back on azathioprine. It is an immune suppressant and has all the benefits of the steroid predisalone but not the weight gain. I've found azothaprine hugely successful for me. But can take 4-8weeks for your body to get ulcers under control. And specialist needs to get the right dose for your condition /body weight is also a factor apparantly. I was on it long term for some years and then came off for my pregnancies. Now I'm flared back up km back to it but my new specialist reckons you should be on it until condition is controlled not long term.

Oh thank you so much! I have to have the blood test today to see if I can take it which will take 3 weeks to come back so I'm back on prednisolone again for 7th week hopefully not much longer all I have to buy a new wardrobe of clothes! Christmas and steroids is not good together!! I've gaine so much weight!! Lol!! At least with mouth ulcers I haven't eaten properly for a week! Thank you!! Jo x

I have been on 150 mg for about 9 months now & it's honestly the best medicine I've taken for Behćets to date! It helps my mouth ulcer flares & I had gone years without remission. I don't mind the monthly blood work, as long as the meds keep working. Good luck!
