false negatives??: me and my partner were treated for... - BASHH
false negatives??
Hi Shazzy,
Without knowing the timing of the test there are a few possibilities.
If neither of you have had any other sexual partners since you were both treated then it is very unlikely that your bf has been re-infected (as Chlamydia has to come from somewhere).
When did your partner get a repeat test? As after treatment the chlamydia test can stay positive for up to six weeks (the test is so accurate it picks up bits of dead chlamydia that are still hanging about).
There are a few less likely possibilities too... Say if you still had Chlamydia and repeated a urine or self taken swab test when you had a tampon in, the test can come back negative.
Very rarely Chlamydia doesn't respond to the commonly used antibiotics and a second type is needed.
I think the best way to get all this sorted is to go a a specialist sexual health clinic (also called a GUM clinic). They will be able to look into every thing properly.
Try BASHH.org/clinics or

Hi shazzy,
The IUD "copper coil" or the IUS "Mirena" don't affect antibiotic levels or effectiveness at all.
