hi guys - last night I woke up with really intense stomach pain! I didn’t need the toilet at all and I ended up just taking ibruprohen so I could get some sleep. I’ve had It once before and It was the same thing - woke me up in the middle of the night. Any clues? (No bloating/ toilet issues. The pain is from like the middle of the abdomen - not like period pains area) reading up online and getting worried it could be something serious like ulcers etc. Help! (Feeling was like someone had punched me in the stomach!!!) I woke up feeling okay atm - but worried it might come back

You should discuss with your gp. There are a variety of possible causes including gallstones, reflux and gastritis , even IBS depending on the location. You need a proper history taking and examination / investigation.

Thank you. I had a google and non of those symptoms sound like what I had. I’m 33 yo, fit an healthy with 20% body fat (so not middle aged or obese as some of the stuff was saying it’s much more likely with higher cholesterol etc). I have got IBS but that usually manifests in a lot of painful bloating and isn’t so acute. No diarrhoea, fever , sickness, nausea - in a way that’s more scary because I don’t know what it could be.

This morning there is still a tinge if uncomfort but not enough for painkillers. If it doesn’t subside / get better tomorrow I will call my gp. Thank you!

you are welcome. If it is upper gut related, and you are worried about ulcers etc, you shouldn't take ibuprofen as this can irritate the gastric lining, and take paracetamol or codeine instead .

Yes all non steroidals ( NSAIDS ) have this potential - aspirin, ibuprofen, diclofenac, naproxen etc .
