Previously I've always been told a test of cure can be done two weeks after the treatment week. Is this still ok?

Chlamydia test of cure
Guidelines suggest this should be done 5 weeks after treatment completed. In reality, when tests of cure for gonorrhea are done ( at least 2 weeks post treatment ) if the person was coninfected with both, the chlamydia test is usually negative. But testing before 5 weeks runs the risk of having a false positive result.
from the national guidelines :
TOC is not routinely recommended for uncomplicated genital chlamydia infection, because residual, non-viable chlamydial DNA may be detected by NAAT for 3–5 weeks following treatment.
TOC is recommended in pregnancy, where poor compliance is suspected and where symptoms persist.
The clinic I attend recommends waiting 6 weeks for the reasons Galen70 points out.
Galen is absolutely correct that it can be detected as a false positive so most clinics won't test again until after 6 weeks and say that if you have completed the treatment correctly then a second test should not be required there are a couple of exceptions the first is in cases of pregnancy as Galen pointed out but also if the TDV (? The more virulent strain of Chlamydia which is more resistant) comes back as positive which will mean extra treatment is required so a follow up test is often recommended to ensure that the additional treatment has been effective.
