How long is it until you can have sex again after 7 days worth of antibiotics for anal chlamydia? Websites are abit or a grey area as NHS days no sex for 7 days but some say post treatment.

Can anybody clear this up please

The reason the area is grey is because there are different treatments from the usual 7 days course of anti-biotics to a single injection and the length of abstinence can be dependent on the treatment given.

For the normal 7 day course of antibiotics then you can normally resume having sex once you have finished the course of treatment, however the antibiotics can still be working for another 5 days and you can still be infected just not infectious.

Of course all of this is different if they call you back for extra treatment because additional tests have shown it to be the more resilient strain.

Couple of points to be aware of, firstly you can return a positive result for a further 5 weeks from treatment which is why they don't run an "all clear" test (You are not still infected but the dead Chlamydia cells remain in the body for a few weeks and will give a positive result). Second you are at a higher risk of reinfection from Chlamydia for up to 3 months.

Finally it is important to make sure that you inform all your sexual partners so that they can get tested and treated if required and that you don't have sex with them until they have or you can just end up being re-infected.

Thank you for this. Sadly we both caught the infection when we invited somebody into our relationship (this will not be happening again) both treated with 1 day antibiotics then when positive came back for anal my partner was then treated for that. We have both finished all our treatments and i just wondered when would be best for us to start sex again. Your information is helpful.

Ive since done another urine test 2 weeks after i was treated for the infection. Pending them results but have been adviced it may come back a false positive.

Yes it can come back false positive, so don't panic if that happens. Also don't rule out having 3somes if it something that works for you and adding some spice to your sex life (I personally think they tend to be a disaster as someone nearly always ends up being left out but that is just my personal opinion), however just make sure that you do it safely or at least check when they were last tested (and how often they get tested - I find this gives a good indication about how serious they are about their sexual health).

It is recommended that anyone engaging in unprotected sex (not including a monogamous relationship) should ideally be tested at least once every 3 months but no less than every 6 months (I get tested monthly) and for those practising safe sex should be tested yearly.

Hope everything goes well.

Maybe in the future, its been hard no sexual activity for a month now due to our treatment times. Last thing we want is to have sex and re-infect eachother! Cant wait to get connected together again. Thanks for all your help and advice. It is appreciated.

It is possible but unlikely. Are you still on your treatment? Because if so then even more unlikely. the main problem is that any test you take will likely show positive as the dead cells stay in your system for up to 6 weeks. My advice is to keep shagging like bunnies then go together in 6 weeks and get tested and if need be treated at the same time.

No treatment all complete. Didnt have sex till 5 days after treatment. I think its more down to not enough lube and just going like a bunny. Cheers again 4 advice
