Hi everyone

Received a disturbing phone call from my ex from whom I split 2 yrs approx and who hasn’t contacted me for a year.

She informed me that she had been diagnosed with Herpes 2 and accused me of passing it to her as she hasn’t been with anyone else since we split!

I’m symptom free as is my present partner and have never had anything like this apart from an occasional rash when a partner contracted thrush!

I’m aware that this rash is probably some sort of fungal complaint while Herpes 2 is more viral.

Could I have been carrying this virus unknowingly from years ago or is it more likely that my ex isn’t telling the truth or could she have been carrying it unknowingly?

My present partner is less than pleased although not blaming me!

B

Yes you can carry the virus for years without knowing and those thrush symptoms are where probably a mild herpes breakout some people do get reactions quiet badly while some it barely effects them and they can have it and never know

It is possible to be a carrier and not have any symptoms. Not quite sure about this but wondering if your local GU clinic might be willing to do a test for you if you explain your situation? If they can, at least you will know one way or the other.

You can be screened and tested for herpes, which can confirm if you even have it or not. This still doesn't prove however that she got it from you, despite what she might say.

A huge percentage of the population carry a version of the virus on their skin and show no symptoms whatsoever. I was diagnosed when my immune system was incredibly low and I had an outbreak. I'd been married for years. It could have been passed to me by oral sex from my husband or any previous partner unknowingly. My husband does get coldsores so it is most likely him but it's impossible to ever know and unless we all turn celibate we can't avoid the risk of spreading it. I remember being irrationally angry when I was diagnosed and wishing there was someone to blame but it's just not like that. I was lucky enough that my GP calmly explained. I suspect she is just angry as it really is so misunderstood.
