Waiting on results....

Hi guys,

Went to GUM clinic and got tested for Chlam, Gono, HIV & Syphillis last Monday morning.

After testing they said 7/10 days for results. With weekend included it is now 8, and 6 without weekend.

Is this normal? Should I call and ask? I always worry I didn't write my phone number down right (even though I double checked in the clinic)

A year or so ago I had the same tests done and received results exactly 7 days after (including weekend) any info/thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

Yup. Absolutely normal.

Don't panic on day 7. It means nothing. 7-14 days, sometimes a retest is necessary.

Ok thank you.

Why would they retest? I think I'm just worrying over nothing

Retests can occur due to a fault in the sample - e.g. not enough sample material (we "ran out of blood"...!!), contaminated (e.g. anal or urethral scrape)... taking a sample is not an exact science and it does - sometimes - go wrong. The reason I mention it is because the clinic will contact you if this happens and the phone call - or text - will be cagey because the topic is sensitive. This will make you panic. And you don't need to.

Every 4 weeks?

And is this a free gum clinic?

It's just the normal medical centre

Busier periods (christmas and new year) and also associated staff leave sometimes make results a little behind. This can have a knock on effect for a few weeks until catch up. Staff still manually check results in many clinics.

The fact you haven't heard may actually mean you haven't got anything. The clinic I go to will ring if you have tested positive But don't ring or text if it's all negative

Results came today, I have chlamydia, got to go for a meeting tomorrow to start treatment.

Is this easily treated?, and how long does it take to cure?
