autism and misunderstanding others?

systemofaslipknot profile image

i only recently discovered im autistic, and im learning new things about myself all the time, but i have a consistent struggle with understanding what people say, i always seem to misunderstand what my boyfriend says even though it seems clear enough to him, as i have many interpretations it could mean in my head (and i always happen to choose the wrong one), does anyone else that’s autistic struggle with this too? no matter how hard i try to understand it just doesn’t work because i genuinely cannot think of what else something could mean ( over text)

Hi there,Yes, my daughter struggles with text and more so when emojiis seem to mismatch what is being said. She often sees messages as aggressive when they might not be? The ambiguities in text cause an issue which , it seems to also in your case as you say there are many different interpretations. I also have a daughter with Dyspraxia, Dyslexia and Dyscalculia and she struggles with these things too. The organisation of information gets complicated and can leave you feeling overwhelmed and tired.

My 33yr old Son struggles with these things too, I do help him mostly, but things are not always wanting to be shown to Mum for me to help. Private words are private. Reading a few times over & re checking Emojjos with a Pier is best when possible. Wish there was an App for (IN What Context, was that Meant) which Really would Help.
