I am 22 and have Autism.

So I have a YouTube channel and the main topic is supporting others like me and daily challenges and things that we have accomplished. Does anyone have any new good ideas for a YouTube video regarding the Autism topic?

Hi Bella :-)

Good for you for trying to raise awareness. 👍

There are all sorts of videos you could do relating to Autism. Looking at other female YouTubers on the spectrum might give you some ideas. The YouTubers I personally like to watch are invisible i (she hasn't uploaded in a while but all her videos are still available), Purple Ella and Yo Samdy Sam, all of whom are women on the spectrum. 😊

Possible video ideas could be:

Storytime - how I found out I had Autism

Autistic College Student - a day in the life vlog (or you could call it College Student with Autism - a day in the life, depending on whether you prefer person first or disability first language - which could be another video in itself. That and whether you consider Autism a disability, and/or whether you consider yourself to be disabled.)

You could also do videos on sensory issues, meltdowns, shutdowns, inertia, exectutive function difficulties, special interests, relationships (platonic or otherwise) etc. The channels I mentioned above will give you other ideas. But it's totally up to you so do what feels right for you. What's important is that you enjoy the content you're making; your passion is what will attract people and keep them interested in your content. It can take a long time to grow a following so enjoying what you're doing is especially important. Even if you only help one or two people, then you've made a difference.

I hope you find your niche and I'm sure you will overtime.

I also want to mention that it's probably worth making a very clear disclaimer stating that you're not a qualified professional - that you're just someone sharing your experience - particularly if the content is scientific/ research based. (If you do make content based on research then it's always a good idea to make the sources you used clear and accessible.)

Best of luck.

Xx

That's really good. I was recently diagnosed with autism last year at the age of 36. I'm now 37 and I have an 11 year old son who was diagnosed with autism aged 4.

What's your youtube channel called?
