Camhs can diagnose autism but can not treat it, that is true, I believe either education department or the local authority can activate an educational psychologist to carry out a report for your sons educational needs or the school could ask for one, as for a key worker I believe the school can also ask for one for your child. I telephoned Children social services and asked for one. with the way things are you might have to do all the telephone calls to get your son recognises as needing help.

Good Luck.

That's sad you and your son are going through that. My son was diagnosed with autism 2 years ago. Once a year he goes to a specialist. He sees his school psychologist weekly, he had speech therapy and OT both once a week until he no longer needed it. In addition to parent teacher conference, I have meetings with his education team of his main teacher, special ed teacher, psychologist, and principal a few times a year. I was given a book about children with disabilities and their rights with helpful resources. The clinic you go to and the one that diagnosed him should have been more helpful on assisting your family's needs.

I wished I was more informative on my son's rights. The school staff told me they were thinking of expelling him for a few days. I wanted to scream at them but didn't. He was 5 at the time!

I hope you will find a good support system :-)

Your son should have a EHC Plan. He should be assigned a Key Worker and you should be having regular meetings with the schools SENCO. You should speak to the SENCO about this and if there is still nothing being put in place I would suggest going to the government as it is a law that he needs a EHC Plan. Hope this helps.
