Disabled showers/ wet-rooms. Any tips please?

To avoid having to go upstairs to bath, we are looking at converting our downstairs shower (quite high and difficult for me to get into at the moment) into a disabled shower/wet-room. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience/tips? Many thanks Lit

Put in loads of grab rails and non slip floor tiles.

There is on the market a shower tray which is built into the floor and only uses a curtain to pull round Wickes have a service where they come to your house and plan it for you and they will price it up too. A wet room is ideal but needs more space than a shower

I got Wickes to fit a shower tray which is level with the floor and then bought a shower screen to go round They don't use high pressure selling and I found them most helpful Good luck Ted

Put the turn on switch/handle/tap for the shower on the entrance side - not under the shower itself - then you wont get cold/wet while waiting for the water to come through hot.

Thank you for all your great tips and suggestions. I will have a proper read over the next few days.

My only thought has been do you miss a good old soak in the bath?

Thanks again for all the great tips and suggestions.

I have been looking at disabled walk-in baths/showers. I am probably being silly but am I right in thinking, to use the door, you have to run the bath when you are in, and let the water all out before you can get out? This seems silly and to completely defeat any idea of warming your body up?

I've thought about bath with a door, but I'd be worried about getting the water temp right and getting cold whilst waiting for the water to drain away. Anyone got one of these baths to advise?

I use a walk in shower Litty. Firstly, I purchased a shower cubicle larger than I needed, the make is Arysto, sturdy with thick glass. If I slip and fall against a panel there shouldn't be any problem. The size enabled me to organise a seat in the shower attached to the wall which allows me to sit on it and scrub my feet. The seat folds back when not in use. I had a nonslip shower base installed and it really is non slip even with soap and gel swilling around. The make is JT40 Anti Slip fusion tray1400x800mm, you can see their range on their online site. I also have two grab handles. I've reached the stage where I couldn't manage with less. Good luck. There are so many decisions to make at times like this, decisions which may also affect others in the household.
