Hi I have just been put on this for my ataxia. Currently having a very bad (long) episode with terrible dizziness as well as the wobbles. Please can anyone tell me what to expect..how will it help? Thanks!
starting acetazolamide: Hi I have just been put on... - Ataxia UK
starting acetazolamide
Never heard of that drug macforme. I take Bethahistine tablets every day for dizziness that is associated with Meniers Syndrome.
Not heard of medicine either, but I have occasional dizzy spells (not to be confused with imbalance) and my sight goes a little foggy, GP and consultant (ataxia) think it may be low blood pressure and in my case not to worry about it. Fingers crossed!
Betahistine has been a wonder drug to me no side effects on me either,
I tried to stop it once and had to crawl as I couldn't stand up
The reason I take it is because of dizziness, I think caused by antiphospholipid syndrome and sneddons syndrome,I don't have meniers disease, good luck hope it works out well for you

Had ataxia for over 20years now and never been offered any medication, was always told there isn't anything,so it has become a part of my identity. In my experience any drug which has nasty side effects,Forget it!!.
Think it's supposed to help with the ataxia. It can also act as a diuretic so you should drink plenty of fliuds (not alcohlic!) to prevent dehydration (& possible associated headaches)
Hi macforme
Acetozolamide can be is used in people with Episodic Ataxia Type 2 to help with dizziness and reduce the number of attacks the person has. Do you have EA2?
Harriet
Yes EA2 is my presumed form of ataxia:/
