I am due to have an appointment soon, so trying to find an accessible optician.
Last year I went to a local optician and safety was not an issue. The waiting room was not suited to disabled, so it is time for a change.
I am trying to find out whether there is such a service as a community optician. I don't want to have a home visit because I tried that and was less than happy with the experience.

🤔 Could you ask friends/neighbours/relatives if they see an Optician with a spacious waiting room.
I googled ‘opticians with spacious waiting rooms’ ...and there are actually links 🙂
There really are only 2 options ..either visit an Optician, or request a Home Visit..
How to book a domiciliary sight test
Many high-street opticians provide domiciliary eye care and you can choose who gives you your sight test. If you move into a care home you may be able to keep your regular optician. You don’t have to see an optician that the care home chooses. You can contact your local practice direct to find out if they will visit you, or you can visit our website at aop.org.uk/findoptometrist to find an optometrist who provides domiciliary eye care. You, a relative or your main carer must ask for a domiciliary sight test.
I have attended our local Specsavers for the last 14 years. and the most recent one (3 weeks ago) Ineeded my wheelchair (no parking near-by) and explained this making my appointment. They were very accomodating and had set up a room especially. Not so for my hearing aids and tests when they didn't seemto realise that my wheelchair would not fit into a tiny cibicle and 'no' I couldn't walk 6 paces and was ina wheelchair for a reason.
I know what you mean about Specsavers - it can seem very cramped. A lot of furniture. I had to stop going because of this. I tried Vision Express last time & they were very accommodating. Lots of room & I didn't have to get out of my wheelchair at all - I mentioned this upon booking. A lot of other opticians I looked at were inaccessible - I think in this day & age they should be. Good luck 🤞
