An update, as not posted for a while. My Cerebellar Ataxia (sca6) has progressed now to the stage where I have trouble walking (used a stick when outside for 4 years), I get out of breathe quite easily, and to be honest do not feel like going out if I can help it, as I feel like I am slowing my able (ish) bodied partner down. I have not had any real contact with my GP, as there is nothing he can do, so do not bother him. I had 1 lot of physio a few weeks back, but it made me feel worse, as if something had happened/gone wrong, I decided to cancel any further physio. Am waiting to hear back from the DWP about my "Work Capability" papers I sent in back in Feb 2022, but they are on a go slow it seems, and silly me just provided the latest and newest info, as I thought they would check my earlier info, but was told they wanted everything from 2014 (when I was diagnosed) to 2022... will see what happens

A update
SCA6 is progressive, of course, Happily, between walking sticks and a wheelchair, there is plenty of mobility support available from rollators. Indoor, ones, outdoor ones, with a seat or without, 3 wheels or 4, light for transport, or heavy for stability, etc etc. Tip:, even "flat"pavements are often broken so if you want a rollator for out doors, the bigger the (front) wheels, the better. My experience says not less than 8" diameter. Keep walking!
Hi PeteI am lucky enough to have Sca 6 as well I was diagnosed in September 2019. I help myself as best I can but need a rollator for longer walks ie anything longer than 40 metres. It’s a good tip from Telegraphist ref the wheels on a walking aid, I bought one with solid wheels which has been as much use as a trapdoor on a boat.
You take care my friend 👍🏻
