I have seen some protocols in some Chinese literature for the treatment of SCA with buspirone. Buspirone: (Increase to 5mg twice a day in week 2 and up to 10mg 4 times a day in week 3. (Take this dose thereafter for a total of 3 months/reduce to the maximum tolerated dose if the patient experiences repeated intolerable adverse reactions or discontinue treatment.) I hope this program will be helpful to you. I wish you good health.

Dear skyasll

Thank you for your post.

Ataxia UK can only recommend treatments for ataxia that are backed up by robust and reliable clinical research. Unfortunately, buspirone doesn’t fall into this category. Also, if considering starting any new medication, you must consult with your doctor first.

Ataxia UK has a Medical Advisory Panel which guides the charity on how to best manage and treat ataxia. As soon as a medication is available that is shown to safely treat ataxia, Ataxia UK will communicate this to the ataxia community.

I understand that this is frustrating. I have ataxia myself. However the safety of people with ataxia is one of Ataxia UK’s upmost priorities.

Best wishes
