Psilocybin

I’m Matt I got spinocerebellar ataxia from a stroke when I was 12. For the past year or more, I have been interested in the neurogenesis of psilocybin mushrooms. I’ve read a few studies showing benefits for stroke from mushrooms, but I have not seen a study or something anecdotal showing an interaction between mushrooms and ataxia.

Has anyone tried mushrooms?

Hi Matt

I have heard of people taking 'lion's mane' for help with nerves

Best to proceed with caution - do you see a functional medicine specialist at all?

They can help coordinate supplements and check levels of different nutrients

Best wishes

Hi Matt, I’m 54 and have ideopathic ataxia. I too had read of improvements gained from lions mane, so tried it about 6months ago.

I’ve taken various type - liquid and capsules. Neither seemed to have any effect on the ataxia, although that’s not to say that it wouldn’t work for you. It’s a supplement so worth a try, there’s nothing to lose.

Good luck.

chelpet My symptoms are ataxic gait, ataxic motor skills, and nystagmus, and since I had a stroke, my left hand is a flipper =)

Leils I have lions mane, but haven't taken it regularly enough to see a benefit. I currently take ashwaganda, buspirone, and and NAC. No, I haven't ever seen a functional medicine specialist. I actually just saw a neurologist for the first time in almost a decade.

Jingle1967 Haven't taken lions mane regularly, but if its suppose to be iimmediate benefit, then we're in the same boat.

Use to love taking them recreationally , in my 20's before my diagnosis. I too have seen things about the possible benefits. Would be very interesting to SEE.

Matt, I also am very interested in this research which is being carried out at several establishments here in the US and in the UK.

You might find useful info on this site:

nycgeordie I'll check it out. I've been talking to a guy on reddit who is doing paul stammet's npls (niacin, psilocybin, lions mane) regimen, and has found it helpful for his stroke. Will let you know if I find anything on ataxia.

HiVery interested in your post regarding mushrooms. I too have the same diagnosis as you and tbh life is hard.

Is your mood affected badly my mood is very low and my anger levels can be high and can go from angel too devil in a blink of the eye.

There is definitely potential, there’s a couple studies exploring the possible potential work till the side in and stroke and Parkinson’s, but they haven’t completed yet. I did plan on trying Paul Stamets N PLS stack soon, so I can let you know about my experience.

I don’t think my overall mood has changed too much, but the stroke or ataxia, I don’t know which, has made me more emotional though. Actually though, I feel like to when I was younger like around the age of 15, so 10 years ago, I did have a temper.

Hi, I've only just come across this site due to researching my father's recent diagnosis and am very interested to here how Psilocybin mushrooms or any other medicinal mushroom can help with Ataxia. Also if I hear of anything in my findings I will share. Thank you
