Does anybody believe that Cerebellar Ataxia is caused by a very strong immune system and that this immune system attacks the cerebellum because it is identifying it as hostile?

What an interesting idea. I’ve never heard that before!

Yes I do believe that is something that has happened to me and for the first time in four years my neurologist has said it maybe is a possibility due to the quick deterioration.

There are autoimmune ataxias: newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/...

I wouldn't characterize autoimmunity to be a sign of a strong immune system, but rather a dysregulated immune system. Some autoimmune conditions do confer higher protection against certain types of infections and cancers, but often also have greater susceptibility to other types of infections and cancers. I'm thinking of Celiac (my daughter has it, so I'm a bit more familiar - they are at increased risk of a certain type of intestinal cancer but have decreased risk of ovarian cancer, for example). I don't know if this is the case for autoimmune ataxias.

Fascinating idea. I know that I do have a strong immune system and I never get sick.
