I was diagnosed with ataxia back in 2007 which was caused by alcohol. I've stopped drinking 2014 and my atax improved a bit but that's all.

🤔 Ataxia symptoms may not totally improve after abstaining from alcohol. It’s possible gluten sensitivity may hamper improvement. Unfortunately the link I found to confirm this failed, but the gist of it was, after much testing at Sheffield Ataxia Centre, that was the conclusion.

🤔 will you get a chance to speak to your Neurologist anytime soon, just to give you advice about this. If so, you could request a test for gluten sensitivity to find out if it would actually be necessary to change your diet.

The findings may not apply to everybody who has had a diagnosis of Alcohol induced ataxia, so without a positive test to show you are actually sensitive to gluten, it would be a case of trial and error if you decide to eliminate gluten entirely from your diet.

Just changing to gluten free off the shelf food isn’t enough, if you decide to go down this route you do need to research and find out exactly what you need to avoid. It’s known that some medications can actually contain gluten, and even some shampoos.

Bear in mind, if you decide to try it, this involves a drastic change in diet, and eating out can be a real challenge.
