The only things I appear to be asking are questions that relate to ataxia symptoms. It makes me feel better knowing the things that happen to me are happening to someone else with the dreaded A. I don't feel as alone. Here goes, does anybody else get cramps in their legs, sometimes during the night my leg cramps and for a few seconds the pain is excruciating but then it dies down. All the muscles in that are hard in that area. Sometimes it can be my arms or torso but mostly my legs and hips.

hello, I get cramp in my legs at night. I sometimes stretch them because I feel so scrunched. Getting out of bed and standing for a while gets rid of the cramp
I used to get leg cramps and sometimes foot spasms where my foot/leg would kick involuntary...... my brother suggested I drink.....Indian Tonic Water..... my leg cramps dont happen very often now, you can get the Indian Tonic Water in most big supermarkets, in different flavours, my favourite is lemon..... try it! 🌞👍😘
Hi Don One of my pet hates growing up and my mum still teases me about it today is tonic water. I hate it but now you've suggested it I'll try a flavoured one how do you get the emojis?
At the bottom of my keypad under Z is a key with a smiley face(emogi) click on that....... I use an iPad! You have used an emogi in your last sentence ? 😀😘👍
Hi Don I didn't use an emoji as such just 3 seperate keys and didnt think it would make one. Hay ho it did, will use my ipad at home cos have only got my computer keyboard at work, no emojis :-(. Sorry to hear about your fall last night. Keep smiling as you always do
My mother has kyphoscoliosis and suffers with flare ups of sciatica episodically where she describes what you have been experiencing. She takes anti-inflammatories and has been prescribed muscle relaxants to help with that as her spasms and leg cramps are as a result of nerve impingement. I also know that the GP’s can prescribe quinine tablets to help with leg cramps at night (which is found in tonic water but good to know if you don’t like the taste of tonic !).
I have not been diagnosed with Sca, but I have a relative with Sca(type unknown) For the past couple of years, I would get horrible leg cramps at night. I started taking magnesium citrate at night and this helped tremendously. I no longer get cramps.
I think I have early signs.....I can’t do tandem walk, gave difficulty balancing on one foot and am tentative walking on stairs- going down. Just from looking at me...I look fine, but deep down, I know i have it. But I’m in my late fifties, and my sister has had it since her thirties.
Hi I'll try your remedy, thanks. I hope you find out you've not got Ataxia but if you do find out you've got it please keep coming on here it has helped me tremendously. I know how it feels to look ok but you know there's something a miss. I think folk looking at me now would only think her walkings a bit off but inside you know there's something wrong. Take care.
I agree, I get terrible cramp mainly in the legs (even my ankles or feet) but standing helps. It hurts a bit less than normal cramp but I have to get out of bed.
I used to get cramps in my legs when sleeping. Since I have gone on a gluten free diet and I have started drinking more water it doesn’t brother me to much now. I have also noticed my foot spasms have decreased some what.
I like tonic (lime flavoured is my favourite). But sometimes I get cramp at night, normally a short walk to loo sorts it, otherwise I kneel on our sofa and go up and down x
