Hi All

I am going to ask you all if it is worth filling the forms out for PIP. I have read so many negative posts and don't think i can handle the stress. I was diagnosed through gene diagnosis that i have SPG7. Work has been fantastic and still work fulltime with an aid of a walking stick as mobility an issue but still struggling with it all and don't think I have any fight left in me.

Hi, I would advise you too. It's a 50/50 chance. You'll either get standard or enhanced. I applied in February last year when I was still under investigation. I was walking unaided and was awarded enhanced for daily care and standard for mobility.

My genetic testing results came through in May confirming that I have SCA6.

Things have changed. I now use both a walking stick and a walking frame. So at the end of last month icalled them up to tell them my circumstances have changed. I have been sent a reassessment form to fill in and post back before 28th February.

Absolutely... I shuddered when I saw the form. I did 5 pages in the morning. Read over my answers then did another 5 pages later in the day. Repeated this till complete. I answered truthfully, don’t over/under axagerate anything. It did make me cry when completing the form as it made me fully aware of how I’ve deteriorated I’m a positive person but this just knocked the wind out of me. The interview was ok, you are asked to go into more detail . Please make sure the companion you take with you is someone that really knows you and your daily struggles.

The 6-8 week wait for confirmation, for me, was the hardest part.

Breathe smile and and fill out that form

Yes fill in the form and send doctors and specialists letters with the form to help your claim. Make sure you tell them about your worst days. Good luck

I would suggest to you to fill in the form. In order for the government to save money it is hoped we are put off applying (enough politics). I did find the process stressful but it was worth it in the end. When filling out the form I would advice to get assistance to fill it out either from citizens advice (CAB) or money matter. Also if you are not awarded what you feel is the right level then do appeal or go to tribunal if necessary.

I was initially given no award in appeal so went to tribunal and was given standard rate for care and enhanced rate for mobility.

Good luck.

Apply before its too late, there is an age limit, not income. There will be a date by which the form should be filled in and returned. Apply now and as your circumstances change tell them.

"They" must have contacted my GP and others because I only gave their contact information on the form. My PIP form did not ask for additional info, but my memory is crap.

Once PIPed it opens doors. Ditto Blue Badge. I'm on maximum for everything, I believe, so must be really disabled!

Definitely, definitely, defintely do as Leona suggests. Get the CAB to fill it in for you. Every single question is designed to trap you. To give the DWP an excuse not to pay.

The CAB (or in my case the local council - as there is no CAB in the town) know exactly how to answer these questions. They've done it a million times (well, maybe not a million - but a lot).

It takes a lot of the stress away too (and stops you worrying that you haven't answered in the best way).

So let them do it. I was even advised, by the council's Welfare Support staff, NOT to fill it in myself when it arrived.

The best piece of advice I've ever been given.
