I am 33 and was diagnosed with ataxia 8 ago after struggling with Coordination and balance for several years. After having numerous scans and mri and blood tests they found abnormalities in my cerebellum but did not know what there were.
I went to see my neurologist in June and he took some blood to do a genetic test. I got the results a few weeks ago and they have found a abnormality connected to type 6 but they are not sure that this is causing me to loose my balance so now I have got to wait for an appointment for the genetic clinic.
Feeling confused😕

Sorry I can't help you Loubi82. You say that they found abnormalities in your cerebellum. Have they also said that your cerebellum has shrunk (atrophy)?
Dear Loubie82, I was diagnosed eleven years ago with Sporadic Cerebellar Ataxia (unknown cause, symptoms 24/7). My MRI showed atrophy of my cerebellum. My ataxia has progressed, as I have an MRI every five years since my first one at diagnosis. Each one has shown a bit more atrophy. All my other tests came back normal. My balance is compromised to the point where I started to use a cane when I leave my home about five years ago, to prevent falls. I also use an Access Active Rollator for pleasure walks. So far I'm able to walk, extremely carefully, in my home unaided. I hope you receive some answers! My best to you..., ;o)
