New diet, fish, fruit, wholewheat fusilli, cottage cheese, some eggs, milk, a little meat, potatoes, salad.

Have to lose at least 5-6 stone.

Have more exercises to do at home on wheelchair and on sofa.

I have my own chart to keep records for dietician.

The change of diet is a big challenge, I know only too well :-)

It's do-able John, not easy but do-able :-)

At one time I ate every type of bread/cakes available, I paid little

attention to nutrition, it was a case of if it's quick and tasty, it

fitted the bill.

For years I never drank water on it's own, just mostly coffee, this

probably made me dehydrated, heaven knows how much that must

have affected Ataxia.

It's 6 and two 3s whether an exercise regime is harder to establish

than a change in diet :-)

I find it very hard to remember to do any exercise, SCA effects my

concentration so much, I'm so easily distracted. The general advice

is usually to start a basic routine at the same time every day and

eventually it becomes a habit :-)

Twice I managed to get down from 12st to 8st. Before an operation

for Gall Stones I managed to lose 1st, I was told it would make a big

difference to the type of operation involved.

Being mostly immobile is exceptionally challenging to you, but I know

you have a stubborn streak, so I know you'll find a way :-)

When you were at sea there must have been times when you enjoyed

being in the water. Can someone help you get access to a swimming

pool, from what I've been told this can be very relaxing gentle exercise :-)

Unfortunately I don't swim :-(

I've recently lost 1st, but you wouldn't want to do it my way with a fixed

brace on your teeth :-) xB

Hello wobblybee,

I know what you mean, I just had to look at food and I wanted it. I really loved my Chinese food - online takeaway - and pizzas. I probably loved them a bit too much ha, ha.

Ahem ;-O I`ve never drank water on its own, at the pub it had a different name.........:-)

When watching a football match on TV the cans of beer would be handy at the side of the chair with the pizza on the coffee table. If watching a good film on TV, the cans of beer would be handy at the side of the chair and the pizza on he coffee table.

But I did work long hours and the job I was in did involve a lot of walking during the nightshifts and I had to be mentally alert and top of the job during the dayshift hours no slacking. and in the summer I would walk to work and walk home.

But after my accident in late `94 and not returning to work, eventually laid off from work in early `95 and then this Ataxia SCA6 life has been on a bit of a roundabout.

But. looking back on my road to where I am today, the things I have `done` and `seen` the `people` (Royalty, Presidents, Celeb`s) I have met, the country`s/peoples I have visted, the long lasting friends I made in the Royal Navy..................

I would not change one second..........................................

And now the sun is out and it is time for my porridge :-)

Dear John, I KNOW you can do it! I lost 30 LBS in the past two years and have 30 more to lose! Lose it slowly, as it's easier to keep it off. You'll feel better and have more energy, so it's a win-win! Kudos to you!!!! ;o) (How many pounds is 5-6 stone?)

in reply tofebruary

Hello February,

5-6 stone is about 70-80 pounds :-)

I`ve got plenty of fruit and such to eat. With wholemeal fusilli (pasta), all kinds of fresh and chilled fish, cottage cheese....etc

To be truthful I`m enjoying it :-)

John

Just spent the last hour cleaning blender. Seems it does not agree with chopped fruit and fresh fish (gutted & deboned first).

I can't eat it any other way because of swallowing problems...

It's all clean now and my lunch is ready for Monday :-)

I seem to get my breakfast down okay porridge, as long as I eat it slowly and sip orange with it.

I have been experimenting with my blender and have made some lovely tasty swishes (meals), and some that were, well, awful :-)

Not what you're looking for?
