wouldn't it be an idea to have a list of rough geographic contacts and aliases [members can easily set up a separate anonymous email address] for members. If there is one please make it idiot proof and findable

WobblyJohn, you can always contact me, if you like ;-)

Via the info on the support group page, Gateshead Newcastle.

Prior to the new format, I seem to remember it was fairly easy

to assess if somebody lived not too far away.

I suppose you could always post something to the effect, I live

in such and such an area, do you live nearby?

Or, something even better! Get in touch with your local support

group. Even if you can get to just one meeting, it's a way of

contacting others.

If you can't get to a meeting, just explain the situation to the

person who runs the group, they may be able to put you in touch

with people via phone or online.

Best wishes xBeryl

Hi wobelyjohn

Beryl's advice is excellent, as always! There did use to be a facility on the forum when it started that you could search for the nearest 10 people to you geographically, but when HealthUnlocked changed their platform a little while ago, that function unfortunately disappeared.

As Beryl said you could ask on the forum if anyone lives near to you and then communicate with each other via the private messaging system on here. Alternatively the advice about getting in contact with the person who runs your nearest support group/branch (you could get this info from the helpline at Ataxia UK on 0845 644 0606 or helpline@ataxia.org.uk) and asking if anyone in the group would like to communicate online/by phone is spot on!

Hope you find someone local to you!

Best Wishes

Harriet
