Hi Does anyone know what the term manifesting carrier means ?

Hi jaffa12,

Best to google this, there's various information relating to Ataxia.

But, my paternal grandmother had the gene (manifesting) for

Muscular Dystrophy. This can be passed down the female line

to males.

She married twice, having being widowed the first time. My father

and his brother were from the first marriage and were both ok.

The second marriage produced 2 girls. The eldest of these went on

to have a boy with Muscular Dystrophy. The other had a girl, who in

turn had a boy, happily he was ok.

So, it seems the gene is erratic when it comes to passing it on. xB
