Yippee. Visited the Neurologist today, who signed me off his books. I still have C.A.. Said I was walking better than I had in the last 7 years. The static bike and treadmill must be working,

Going to see Dr Chinnery at the Newcastle Ataxia research centre next week. I will be happy to be a test case if necessary.

Will keep you posted.

Hi Jomo,

Can I ask what you exercise you have been doing on the bike and treadmill that has improved your walking. If I could improve mine it would make such a difference to me at home. I live somewhere pretty remote and am finding just walking short distances becoming harder.

Yours,

Heather

Hi Tiggywinkles! Yesterday, I saw a neurophysio, she had previously given me a series of core exercises to practice to help balance. I hadn't done them specifically as written down but had

'incorporated' them into 'dancing' around the kitchen, with only the cat present! She seemed

pleased with the result! xB

Hi Tiggywinkles.

I bought both my exercise bike and treadmill from the local newspaper. I do about 15 minutes cycling, shame I don't seem to get anywhere. keeps the dog entertained anyway and 15 minutes walking on the treadmill keeping hold of its handles. I try to do this every other day. I suppose or think I am building up the muscles in my legs. I was once told if you don't use it you can lose it.

I hope that has been of some use to you.

Morning Jomo,

I got an exercise bike last year with all good intentions of using it daily! It didn't last but now you have said you have improvements in your walking I will try to get back to it. I was managing about 5 minutes before so shall aim to build it up to longer. Will think about the treadmill too.

Yours,

Heather

It's right on my doorstep

So a wheelchair-taxi will be no problem, just as long as there are no hotel steps :-(

Great news Jomo! Your bike and treadmill are clearly working, so keep on keeping on! I have a question: what is a "static" bike? Times like this I wish I lived close (I live in the States). I'd LOVE to come to you support group meeting, as it would be wonderful to meet you all! ;o)

Hi Febuary,

By a static bike I meant an exercise bike, one that stays in the room and doesn't go anywhere. That's why my dog can safely sit in front of me and watch. I often wonder want he is thinking.
