Does anyone know of a belt-like apparatus, that provides the necessary force to the base of the back.

I have developed a serious postural tilt over many years of being in a wheelchair, or am I in a wheelchair because of a postural Tilt? A good question but, the one i’m looking for the answer to here.

Does anyone know of a belt-like apparatus, that provides the necessary force to the base of the back. Plus, have the required thickness, to push this area forward when sitting in any chair. This would make life easier for me and the rest of my family. I wouldn’t need to think where I might sit and, others will not need to move them, in order to sit.

Hi Scruffycat!

Are you thinking in terms of something to wear, weighted at strategic points to encourage

you to have better posture when sitting? xB

I suppose so. I didn't really have anything specific in mind but, that might work

I`ve googled this and there are numerous different sites that give different services for correct fitting and posture whilst sitting in wheelchairs including many from the NHS, can`t find anything about belts though.

Well, what about a 'weighted vest/waistcoat'? These have little pockets all over the inside, and weights

can be distributed in the appropriate areas until the desired posture is achieved. Please note, I'm not

thinking 'ton weights' here! xB

I'll try to find one I can adapt. I'll see many people will donate 50p sized weights, to get me started!

You can adapt one, I know this for a fact, so there's no need to spend a small fortune

on one from the internet. xB

Hello Scruffycat

I too have a postural problem, sitting in my wheelchair is a nightmare. My power chair has a special back,it is wonderful. It was made for me. My carer said there are restraining straps you can get. However before you do anything you should contact the NHS Wheelchair service who will advise you.

Take care

Hi Scruffycat!

Just to agree with Fifa.

I was at a specialist centre this morning, and asked your question. They pointed me in

the same direction. Apparently there's more than one solution to this problem. xB
