Adrenaline during asthma attacks

Anyone had this? How does it work? I had an adrenaline injection and the rest nebulised (along with hydrocortisone, magnesium, atrovent nebs, and salbutamol nebs) yesterday evening during a bad attack (silent parts of my chest again etc.). Not staying in any longer than needed being discharged today. Just a bit frustrated. Anyway, how does adrenaline work in asthma attacks?

Sorry you’re back in again, and that they’re keeping you. But best to stay in if you’re still struggling!

Was it given by paramedics? As it’s part of the pre-hospital treatment path they have as they don’t have access to things like mag (or magicesium as I prefer 😂). But it helps to reduce airway swelling and bronchospasm. If you’ve also got allergy related issues it also helps to inhibit mast cells (which is also why it’s given in anaphylaxis).

It is, but ahh you know how it is. 😂 want to get out of here!

Yes! She was concerned about my chest being silent and my sats and stuff (thinking about it now it's kinda silly that I was thinking I'd get out when I was/still am acutely ill 😄🤦🏻‍♀️), think that's part of why she gave it and then had magnesium in resus! Thanks for explaining, it makes a lot of sense!

Hope you're doing okay!

I had a similar combo last week 😂 Yeah, it’s next in line pre-hospital if nebs/hydro don’t help. Or sometimes if you’ve got a slightly longer journey to hospital they’ll give it to help settle things for the journey

adrenaline promotes bronchodilation mainly, but also blocks nerve pathways that promote bronchoconstriction. When I was a child with asthma my inhaler, a strange glass affair, had adrenaline in it.
