Finding the right inhaler/medication

I'm still struggling to get my asthma under control and I am beginning to think I am going to be like this for the rest of my life, which makes me feel hopeless.

I have tried a number of different preventers including beclometasone, salmeterol (Serevent) etc. All of them improve my breathing but 4-5 days in I end up with crippling muscle aches and back pain.

I went back to the doctor (who is sick of looking at me) and told her about the pain, she prescribed Singular 10mg tablets and am using Bricanyl as my blue reliever. After 4 days, I had aching joints and spasms not only in my back but I had an aching right leg/thigh. I don't feel my asthma got much better anyway on it.

I am stuck in a vicious cycle of trying something, getting pain, stopping and ending up back on my blue inhaler a minimum of 2-3 times per day. I really don't know what to do. I am going to go back to the GP again but I feel they've run out of ideas. My asthma nurse is an abrupt woman who after giving me a spirometry test (which did not produce a clear enough result) has just left me hanging.

Has anyone any experience of muscle aches due to asthma medications? This is having a really big impact on my daily life and I am getting depressed.

Have you spoken to your Pharmacist? They know about medication side effects and may be able to look up info on those inhalers you have tried or advise you. Worth a try.

I hope you feel better soon.

my advice keep going back until they find somthing that suits you. I cannot count the different medications i have had, Some don't suit, some give me cramp like symbicort waking up all hours!! just keep at it you will know when you have found the right one. I am on clenil at the moment quite a high dosage as bad asthma attack in October but so far so good.

good luck and don't give up!!
