Every body has an optimal weight! Ideally you should try and attain a healthy weight for you then make efforts to maintain it.

If you are underweight, loosing more may not be healthy, especially if you lose muscle

I am sure others will comment

Thank you for your reply kevi. What happens if you can't then?

Hi ya,,people with copd burn twice as many calories just trying to breath not doing much,,whle someone without copd,,,, will only burn half of what you burn in a day....SO IT IS VITAL YOU KEEP YOUR WEIGHT UP... EXAMPLE ,, a fit person will use 1 gallon of fuel in a normal day..You will burn at least 2 gallon doing the same thing or even more,,,A bit simplistic i know,,but hope you got it..The blf helpline will explain it better than me,, :)

Protein and lots of it was the answer for me when I needed to gain weight, the problem was the weight gain kept going. I put on the required 2 1/2 stone and then another 1 1/2 stone before a diet was enforced by the transplant consultant. Dam! no more protein just fruit and veg and boring stuff.

I enjoyed my little weight gaining session but its all over now. :(

The upside is I can do so much more without getting so breathless now iv'e lost just over a stone.

Typical male after his protein lol..... Anyway you have a really excellent reason to do it Tony!!! Thanks for the reply heather

Hi heather,

Best that you recognised the fact and that you get some help from your healthcare team.

I think High protein drinks are available on prescription

Can i suggest you do a search on this site!

At the top, choose BLOGS,

Then Community blogs

Then in the search box type WEIGHT

I found lots of suggestions that may help you slow, and hopefully, reverse your weight loss.

I am trying to lose weight at the moment. I had a heart op 10 weeks ago and too much weight made me more breathless than i liked. I was on oxygen and chose to keep breathing than eat. Highly unusual for me.

Pity you could not lose the weight for me. Tell you what....... I'll try and lose weight if you try and find it

Best wishes

Kevin

Thanks Kevin... I am already on nutritional supplements and some days that's all I have other than a magic cup of tea or 2 or 3 well to be honest as many as I can, sugar and full fat milk... Yack! I also have complan with fruit, full fat milk and yoghurt blended up..... Will just have to keep trying lol.... As the teacher used to write on my homework .... Must try harder...

Thank you for the tip on searching for the topic in this site.... Still a newbie to it .... Heather

I have the same problem as you HeatherS. I have lost 2 stone and am struggling to put some back on. I am doing the drinks, full fat milk, cream and lots of junk food but seem to still be loosing weight. It's so frustrating. If you find a magic cure please let me know.
