Breath easy group.

Hi all,

Does anyone know how to go about setting up a breath easy group?

Have been in touch with a member who lives in my area and our nearest group is in Brighton...quite a journey if you don't drive.

Thought it might be nice to set one up locally but I have no idea what to do lol.

Lack of transport and inadequate public transport is a problem with Breath easy groups and re-hab in our borough and responsible for the very low take up and groups closing.

I agree airhunter.

I belong to a great health centre who have their own asthma clinic, small surgery facilities etc. but do not have a respitory nurse to see regularly and I hate wasting my gp's time.

I think if more localised groups could be formed then more people would join. Even down to having a carpool for transport .

Unfortunately you are a bit too faraway from me lol

Jan :)

Car pooling excellent idea I'm in

I would be interested -- Royston, Herts

Aww Annie..

Think it a bit too far for you....jenny and I are in Eastbourne in East Sussex.

But that just goes to prove that people are interested in Breath easy groups...just not enough of them :(

That is nice of you to tell me but it is still a way to go, and I dont drive. I have asked about PR and hope to go to that group.

Sorry, thought this was a general question. Good luck.

Don't apologise Annie:)

... and you are right..it was a general question asking how to go about setting up a BE group.

I was speaking to another member about the lack of a group in our area and when I threw in the question jenny replied too :)

I don't even know how many copd sufferers there are in my area or even how many belong to this site lol so a general question seemed a good idea :)

Take care

If you click your name (top of page, left) and then click recent activity you will see a series of headings. On the second row you will see:

Directory Members A to Z In my area

Click on In my area and it will tell you which members are near you and how far away they are.

Thank you this aunty mary :)

Looking at the directory there are only 5 of us (including me) in the actual area and then about 5 within the surrounding area up to 10 miles.

Further than that members all seem to be Brighton area which has it's own BE group.

I will contact mark tomorrow...I might be allowed to put up a flier in my local health centre but will have to ask as never sure this day and age what is allowed or not lol .

....and there may be other COPDers in the area who are not BLF members. Maybe your respiratory nurse or consultant can get the news to others?

Did you check the breathe easy page:

blf.org.uk/BreatheEasy

Just put in your post code

yes I did thanks :)

found 4 other members in my area but as aunty mary said that doesn't mean we are the only ones with copd....the others just aren't as clever as us and found blf ;) lol

We set up our group about 5 years ago. The BLF will guide you through the process.

The hardest thing we found was finding somewhere to hold the meetings every month that was not too expensive.

With enthusiasm you will get there but you cannot do it alone you need to get more people on your side to form a committee.

I hope it works well for you and it would be nice if you updated us on the progress.

Thank you Polly.
