David 12,
Was it the smell do you think? Or even the dust which must surely be part and parcel of all the carpets?
I find I am getting increasingly sensitive to strong smells in shops especially the detergent aisle in supermarkets. Could be you may have to forego some shops because of the "atmospherics".
M
Could have been many things, general dust, carpet fibres, mould if carpets have been damp somewhere, scotchguard, or even someone's perfume - you could find yourself sensitive to something that others are mainly unaware of.
I start to sneeze and my nose runs if someone near is wearing Avon perfume. I can't go into the Body Shop or places like that either.
Body shop, and these "new age" shops send me off too.! those aisles with washing powders etc.as well.
Carpet is well known, for causing attacks, they can be vacuumed etc. every day,but still retain a lot underneath. We had all ours pulled up,& timber flooring installed, made a big difference. However I know you are in a cold climate, so dont know what the go is there, maybe some other peeps, have got good ideas! xx
We did the same as Wendells and got rid of our carpets and changed to wood flooring, it made a big difference. I find the perfume counters in department stores the worse to get through also at times if i go into a home where to much air freshner is sprayed.
I don`t know if you are the same as me but I too cannot go into any carpet outlet, I think it is a mixture of this new cheaper underlay they use these days, they don`t make the ripple foam sort they tell me,so it`s a mixture of that and the spray they use when they fit the carpet, it is all kept and for sale in the shops, the mixtyre of both is very potent and I too have to leave, hope this helps, you are not alone with that problem x
Carpet shops have the same effect on me! Make me feel wheezy - I'm sure it's just the smell.
Marie
Thanks for all your. Replies i thout. It Was just me trying to do to much as always
We went to buy carpet last week and I started wheezing and coughing as soon as I got in the shop. The carpets are being fitted tomorrow so I hope the effect does not continue at home as its goin to all over the house.

I am sure it's the dust rather than the smell. I can't go into a carpet shop, or anywhere like a 2nd hand bookshop where there's also inevitably dust. Or a farm where there is haydust, garden centre with soil dust in the air, etc etc.
I'm one of those people who had allergy testing as a child, when it was all the rage for wheezy kids (1960s), and dust was one of the major triggers.
Maxer you need to go out for the day! try to get someone else to hoover the whole house several times before you get home again, and open all the windows. I did that when we had all new carpets recently & it wasn't too bad
love, ff x
