Still trying to get rid of a real nasty chest infection , and I must admit I sent for the doctor today after taking all emergency meds, and just not feeling well at all , very short of breath even on short trips In my little bungalow ie toilet kitchen and for the first time in having this condition finding that I am getting more distressed because I can't breath, any way the doctor decided to give me two lots of dirfferent antibiotics to take together plus another course of steriods, now laid in bed trying to sleep but not having much success, hoping the meds kick In soon, and hoping I might be able to do a little shopping with my daughter today, fingers crossed of course.
Hoping it will not snow.: Still trying... - Lung Conditions C...
Hoping it will not snow.
dont be hard on yourself meike, take it easy, rest as much as you can.tomorrow is another day.x
Sorry to here that you are struggling I had the same a week or two ago, stay in the warm and leave the meds do their job,I'm sure there is nothing important that you need at the shops.Hope you are feeling better soon.xx
Thank you struggling seems to be parr for the course with this condition, do we ever get used to it I wonder, I should not feel sorry for myself, I have a good life and a lovely family who I can always relay on, but I must admit it does get me down when I don't seem to be able to get rid of an infection it's so difficult to stay optimistic But I have all you lovely people to speak to every day and I must admit. The first think I look forward to is reading what everybody is saying x
Thank you ,my breathing is a little better this morning, hoping the antibiotics and steriods work quickly, your life drawing class sounds interesting. I envy people who can draw. I can only draw match stalk people, I am a voluntary worker at the local hospital, and for the past two weeks have not been able to go and that is the one thing I enjoy doing most of all. But hopefully I will be able to return in the coming week x
Sorry to hear you are not good, just give the medication time and rest up until you are feeling much better, going out in the cold is the worst thing you could do. Can daughter do your shopping for you?
The more you look after yourself the better you will be and hopefully the infection will clear up sooner.
By the way it is snowing here in the West Midlands just gently at the moment so hope it stays that way or goes completely.
Take care.
polly xx
I hope you start feeling better soon Meike. As for snow, I think the Midlands are due a large amount tomorrow afternoon, so it is a good idea to get fully stocked up with what you need. We are doing that today after the gym.
Lynne xx
Not that I know which area you are, but I am in the Midlands lol
Hi Lnne, I live in West Yorkshire in a little village called thornhill, it's one of those places that if you are in when it snows you don't get out for days or if you are out you wiil find it difficult to get back in. The buses stop running at the first snowflake x
Hello meike sorry to hear you're still not feeling good but you have to remember that recovery from a chest infection can take up to eight weeks, or so I was told by my respiratory nurse. We all think that once the antibiotics and steroids have been taken that we will be back to 'normal' almost immediately, but that b*gger of an infection takes its toll and only rest will eventually take care of it.
What a surprise, by the way, to find that you are in Thornhill. I used to live at the bottom of the hill in Thornhill Lees for many years, on Lees Hall Road
My favourite place to visit (when I get the chance) is Charlotte's Ice Cream Parlour in Whitley ......... have you been ?
Hi elian what a small world, yes we take my grandson to charlotte's is lovely ice team I have lived in thornhill for 35 years but I was born an bred in huddersfield, I used to live at the bottom of combs road but I moved into my little bungalow a year ago last April, and sold my house to my youngest daughter, but I am afraid I am still trying to adjust to living in a different house, but I am getting there slowly it's been a massive change for me because I loved my house so much, but with this condition it was getting too big for me to follow, and I have had to put my health first. Do you think we might have know each other, dewsbury is a small place. And yes you are right it takes a while for us to recover from a bad infection, it seems that just as I start to think I am feeling better it seems to come back with a vengence but thank you for your kind words and taking the time to speak to me it's nice to know that all the people on this site make sure we are thought about and. We are not alone Xx
My Grandma used to live on Valley Drive, at the corner of Smithy Parade. I was born in Dewsbury and lived in Staincliffe, then Chickenley as a child. My sister lives on Valley Road now.
I remember being on a bus trying to get up Overthorpe Road in the snow, and we kept sliding back and towards the wall with a drop down to bungalows below. Back then they were the 'A' buses, not many routes in Dewsbury had numbers, they were nearly all letters The snow had to be really bad for them to stop in those days.
Years later, my first girlfriend lived just off Lees Hall Road, I can remember walking there from where I lived in Dewsbury Moor, snow up to my knees, no buses...
You do know that if we go on like this we will related Its such a small world X
Interesting that you are on two different anti bio's at the same time - I had never come across this until last week when I was fighting off an infection and had my usual amoxicillin plus another one I'd never had before - can't think what it was called now, brain fog! I wonder if this is becoming common practise - or is is it just pointless having amoxicillin - my nurse did say that I shouldn't be given it on my next emergency sript and to remind the GP of the fact.
ps Get well soon!! xx
Hi Parvati, my usual antibiotic is Ciprofloxacin 2 Twice a day and he gave me Amoxicillin three times a day for the next week he said the amoxicillin would fight the infection that the ciprofloxacin might not so the two combined together should work, I swear to god I have more meds in my kitchen than they have at boots, The doc also said that we have to keep trying different antibiotics because the infection get used to it and wiil not work as well but I expect you already know this I seem to be trying most of them I used to take co a moxiclav I think that how you spell it but, it made me really ill and I could not stop being sick shame really because that is the one that seems to work if you can tolerate it I have taken amoxicillin in previous years and in really large amounts 12 tablets a day but they did not work hence the ciprofloxacin, so maybe he is right and the two together will work. I wiil keep you informed wrap up well hope you don't get the snow x
I am not sure which antibio you had but there has been recent English research to suggest that amoxycillin performs no better than a placebo in respect of chest infections. The research was more about proving we take too many antibiotics anyway but I found it interesting.
Sorry to hear you are in such a bad way, this condition gets us all down from time to time but we are all in it together and understand how you are feeling, nothing worse than being SOB so take care and get well soon, stay warm indoors. xx
Teigy
Definitely stay in the warm - no going shopping. It's really damp and cold here in Shrops. and as Lynne says snow tomorrow in the Midlands. (Think I must live quite near to Lynne - our weather is always the same ! )
Take care of yourself.

Hi Meike and everybody i agree its not the time to be brave and push your self and go out that would only make you worse and probably set you back and make you more tired , I think we all kick our backsides to keep going and wish we had"ent at times this is definately one of them times stay in keep warm and i hope you are better soon Bob
hi meike
chin up
hang in there

Thank you all for your lovely comments, your kind wishes and thoughts are like a big warm hug when we need it the most xx
Hi Meike, sorry you are not feeling your best,I'm sure seeing your daughter is going to be the tonic you need! I've discovered shopping on line these last few months and when my Granddaughter comes to sleep over next, guess what we have planned! Get better soon hugs xxx xxx
Hi Meike, like you I thank my lucky stars I found this site both for information and support. Let's try to forget the snow and hope the forecasters are wrong, it's been known.xxxx
sorry you are unwell, , i know how you feel it gets you down when you are so tired and unable to sleep. try to keep your self calm and remember winter is on its way out and spring is round the corner. hope you feel better soon
The last time I was in hospital, I was on full-spectrum intravenous anti-biotics.which is basically as good (or bad) as it gets. It worked for me fortunately but had it not then the options would not have been great. Hope you pick up soon.
My mortal dread is having to go into hospital, but if the doctor had said yesterday that I would have to go in I think I would have been relieved, I had a little stay in hospital just before christmas with a viral infection in one of my lungs and don't seem to have fully recovered since then. I I have heard it said the it can take a long time to get over one of these x
Hi meike, so sorry you are still not feeling so good, it can become very distressing, and we all think that we can manage when in fact we can't manage very well and have to accept help.
I too am fighting an infection and becoming very depressed at not being able to do much, I feel so inadequate at times, and keep forgetting things, getting words muddled etc, I guess this is all part of the COPD etc. My first lot of antibiotics didn't work, nor the steroids (white) now on the red ones and a different antibiotic taking only one of these a day and six steroid pills, have no energy at all, thought steroids were meant to give you energy? Anyway, wish you well, we all become impatient for meds to kick in, guess as my mother used to say, "patience is a virtue, patience is a grace, put them both together and you'll have a pretty face". bet you have all been told that? haha, still waiting for the pretty face, perhaps not been patient enough hehe. take care.
Hi Ellen's, well at the moment my breathing seems to be a little better, I think that means my meds are starting to work, still coughing up more gunge, that I would like, but hoping to get a better nights sleep than I did last night, your quote made me smile, I know the one that says patience is a virtue catch it if you can seldom in a women never in a man which always reminds me of my late husband who had all the patience in the world with our two daughters, but when it came to wiring a plug or something simple he had no patience at all, hence I learned to wire a plug myself which I can tell you has come in very handy since living on my own and every time I do wire a plug I always smile because I know Michael would be smiling saying that's my girl oh what lovely memories not that I wire many plugs lol xx
I was too. Until I started to refuse amoxycillin. I now keep doxy in for emergencies.
Hi Meiki, yes I have heard that one too, and wiring a plug is an achievement, I'm sure Michael was impressed (is) looking over your shoulder from the heavenly spheres, Bless. reason for not wiring many now is perhaps that most things now come with a plug attached, and thats a great help. I do hope you feel better soon and get rid of that dreadful cough, and sleep more comfortably, we all know what its like not to get the sleep we need when infections occur. Take care, chin up and good to know we can all cheer each other up. xx
